RESEARCH PROBLEM
Lionfish, a species of fish native to the Indo-Pacific, are rapidly encroaching on the North Atlantic Ocean. They are harming native ecosystems and local fishing economies.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
What future environmental conditions would enable a lionfish invasion in the Mid-Atlantic and Chesapeake Bay, and when will these conditions occur?
What are the most efficient and feasible proactive policies to protect these regions from possible marine invasions?
MISSION STATEMENT
Our goal is to protect biodiversity in the Atlantic Ocean by mitigating the threat that lionfish create.
- About Us -
Team NEMO^2 is an undergraduate interdisciplinary research team at the University of Maryland in the Gemstone Honors Program that is focused on researching the spread of the invasive lionfish in the North Atlantic Ocean. Our team brings together students from various disciplines, including engineering, computer science, environmental science, to tackle this complex issue and find innovative policy-based solutions.
